"Sunrises or sunsets?"

When trying to get to know someone deeper, do you have a specific question? Like a prelude to a poem? Like dipping your toes into the lake on an autumn afternoon. Allowing you to decide on whether it’s good enough to take a dip or not. And when that person replies with the answer you truly connect with, there's a need to learn more and get to know them.

It’s always those mundane thoughts that bind us. Like balmy weather. Or hot chocolates in the rain. Sharing mundanity leads to something deeper.

So with me – it has always been a mid-conversation salvo that segues into the “sunrises or sunsets?” question.

Although sunrises are beautiful - they portray new beginnings, hope, and the anticipation of looking forward – nothing would make me dive more into a conversation if the answer was sunsets.

Sunsets. The dramatic clashes of colors burst into the sky. The feeling of melancholy it brings. Like watching the sands drift through time in a glass. Of days gone by. Of laughter echoes on the walls and picture-perfect memories.

Nothing evokes more melancholic thoughts and emotions than a setting sun. Signaling that a day is about to end. Understanding that good or bad, happy or not, loved it or hated it – at least you have experienced that day.

As the sun sets – it’s a prelude to the darkness.. And the stars.
